Plot Overview

Brothers follows the story of two estranged brothers, played by Brolin and Dinklage. Brolin’s character is a reformed criminal who is attempting to live a straight life, but his plans are disrupted when his twin brother, portrayed by Dinklage, re-enters his life. The two set off on a road trip, aiming for a once-in-a-lifetime score. Along the way, they face numerous obstacles, including dodging bullets, evading the law, and dealing with their overbearing mother. The journey forces the brothers to not only work together but also address their strained relationship.

Production Background

The worldwide rights to Brothers were acquired by Amazon MGM Studios in May, securing a major release for the film. The script was written by Macon Blair, based on a story by Etan Cohen. The film was produced by Andrew Lazar for Mad Chance, alongside Josh Brolin through his production company JB Productions, and Peter Dinklage through Estuary Films. David Ginsberg also produced the film, with Trish Stanard and Macon Blair serving as executive producers.

Filming in Georgia

The movie was filmed in various locations around Atlanta, Georgia, in late 2021. Georgia’s growing reputation as a major hub for film and television productions made it a suitable location for the film. The state’s tax incentives, combined with its diverse landscapes, have drawn numerous high-profile projects in recent years. Brothers is another addition to the list of major productions choosing to film in Georgia, contributing to the local film industry’s ongoing growth.

Notable Cast

In addition to Brolin and Dinklage, Brothers features a distinguished supporting cast that includes Brendan Fraser, Glenn Close, Taylour Paige, and the late M. Emmet Walsh. Jennifer Landon also plays a role in the movie, rounding out a talented ensemble.

Project Origins

The idea for the movie reportedly came from a humorous observation made by a friend of Josh Brolin, who suggested that both Brolin and Dinklage “have really big heads” and should play brothers. This lighthearted comment led to the eventual development of the film, with Barbakow helming the project.

Barbakow, known for directing the 2020 sci-fi comedy Palm Springs, brings his experience in blending humor with unique storylines to the film. He is also set to write and direct a body-swap comedy featuring Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston for Amazon MGM Studios.
