Jay Duplass returns to feature directing with See You When I See You, a comedic family drama currently filming in Georgia. Leading the cast is David Duchovny, known for his roles in Californication and The X-Files, alongside Cooper Raiff (Cha Cha Real Smooth), Hope Davis (Succession), Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart), Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), and Ariela Barer (How to Blow Up a Pipeline).
The film, scripted by comedian and writer Adam Cayton-Holland (Those Who Can’t), explores themes of grief, family, and healing. Inspired by Cayton-Holland’s memoir, Tragedy Plus Time: A Tragi-Comic Memoir, which won the 2019 Colorado Book Award for Creative Non-Fiction, the story reflects on his own experiences following the loss of his sister. Production is financed by Astute Films, with Fred Bernstein, Cayton-Holland, and Winter Coat Films’ Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon as producers. Additional executive producers include Rick Jackson and the Duplass Brothers, with CAA Media Finance overseeing sales.
See You When I See You brings Jay Duplass back to the director’s chair in a story that captures the dynamics of a close-knit family facing loss. David Duchovny’s role adds to the film’s depth, blending humor and sensitivity. For Duchovny, known for his portrayal of complex, multifaceted characters, this film offers another chance to showcase his range.
Astute Films President Fred Bernstein shared, “Adam Cayton-Holland and Jay Duplass are creating a compelling story of a family in crisis. Inspired by Adam’s personal journey, the screenplay blends humor and insight, making it the kind of story we’re thrilled to bring to audiences.”
