Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Red One’ Opens Friday November 15th in Theaters

The holiday action film Red One, filmed extensively in Georgia, is set to premiere in theaters on November 15. With significant portions of the movie shot in Atlanta and Dunwoody. The film features an ensemble cast, including Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, J.K. Simmons, and Bonnie Hunt, and is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

Red One

The plot centers around a unique holiday rescue mission. When Santa Claus is abducted from his legendary North Pole base, Callum Drift (Johnson), head of E.L.F. (Enforcement, Logistics, and Fortification), joins forces with Jack O’Malley (Evans), a seasoned tracker, to locate Santa and return him in time for Christmas Eve.

In addition to Johnson and Evans, the cast includes Lucy Liu as Zoe Harlow, head of M.O.R.A. (Mythological Oversight and Restoration Authority), which monitors supernatural beings. J.K. Simmons plays a vigorous Santa Claus, and Bonnie Hunt appears as Mrs. Claus. Villains include Kristofer Hivju as Krampus, Kiernan Shipka as the Icelandic witch Gryla, and a trio of sinister snowmen.

Filming for Red One began in October 2022 and concluded in February 2023. Directed by Jake Kasdan and written by Chris Morgan from a story by Hiram Garcia, Red One also stars Nick Kroll, Wesley Kimmel, and others. Morgan describes Johnson and Evans as a “classic odd couple” who bring humor and unexpected camaraderie to the screen. With a production budget of $250 million, Red One promises a visually stunning, action-packed Christmas tale.
