Amazon MGM Studios has announced the streaming release date for its upcoming action comedy The Pickup starring Eddie Murphy, which was filmed in Georgia in 2024. The film, directed by Tim Story (Barbershop, Ride Along, The Blackening), will premiere globally on Prime Video on August 6. The Pickup filmed in Georgia in 2024 under the code name PKUP.

What's it About and Who's in It?
The Pickup stars Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, and Keke Palmer. The story follows Russell (Murphy) and Travis (Davidson), two armored truck drivers whose routine job is interrupted by a criminal ambush. Led by Zoe (Palmer), the crew’s plans extend far beyond the cash they’re after. As the day spirals out of control, the mismatched pair must deal with escalating threats, unpredictable turns, and their own differences to survive.
The cast also includes Eva Longoria, Marshawn Lynch, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i, Andrew Dice Clay, and Ismael Cruz Córdova. The screenplay is by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider. Producers on the project include John Davis, John Fox, Eddie Murphy, Tim Story, and Charisse Hewitt-Webster.
Ismael Cruz Córdova, who appears in The Pickup earlier in his career, portrayed Qin, a Twi’lek mercenary, in the Star Wars universe during an episode of The Mandalorian on Disney+.
Action Sequence Gone Wrong
Production took place in Georgia, and during filming in April 2024, an on-set accident occurred during an action sequence. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the incident involved a two-vehicle crash that resulted in eight crew members being transported to hospitals. No cast members, including Eddie Murphy, were on set at the time.
Following an investigation, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) confirmed that the incident did not result in any violations of workplace safety or health regulations. IATSE, the union representing film crew employees, acknowledged the findings and emphasized the importance of maintaining safety standards across the industry.
