Production for Season 5 of Sweet Magnolias is scheduled to begin on June 2, 2025, in Decatur, Georgia. The romantic drama, which has filmed all previous seasons in the Atlanta area, will once again return to Georgia as its primary filming location and will more than likely be using the code “SM5“. Background casting for the upcoming season is being handled by Extras Casting Atlanta (ECA).

Background on Sweet Magnolias
Sweet Magnolias was developed by Sheryl J. Anderson and is based on the book series by Sherryl Woods. The show follows the lives of three close friends—Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), and Helen (Heather Headley)—in the fictional town of Serenity, South Carolina. None of the main cast members—JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, or Heather Headley—have been involved in any Star Wars productions – at least not yet.
Sweet Magnolia’s Season 4 premiered on Netflix in February 2025. The series was officially renewed for a fifth season in April 2025. While the show hinted at a potential storyline involving a move to New York, no official confirmation has been given about filming in New York for the upcoming season.
Season 5 is expected to continue developing storylines introduced in previous seasons, including new relationships, family dynamics, and possible life changes for the main characters. As with past seasons, Georgia will serve as the backdrop for the majority of the production.
There is currently no official release date for Season 5, but based on prior production timelines, a 2026 premiere is likely.
