Regretting You

According to ProductionList.com, the film is “set against the vibrant backdrop of Atlanta” and described as a “real-life depiction of mother-daughter wrangling at its rawest.” Though Hoover’s original story takes place in a fictional Texas town, the movie version will be set in Georgia.

Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) is directing from a script he wrote, based on an earlier draft by Susan McMartin (After). The story centers on Morgan Grant (played by Allison Williams), a young mother whose life is upended by a tragic car accident that claims two family members. As she and her daughter Clara (played by McKenna Grace) work through grief and strained communication, long-buried secrets and regrets come to the surface.

Scott Eastwood has officially joined the cast alongside previously announced stars Williams, Grace, Dave Franco, Mason Thames, and Willa Fitzgerald. Eastwood’s past film credits include I Want You Back, Fast X, Wrath of Man, and Pacific Rim: Uprising. He’s also set to appear in upcoming projects like Lucky Strike and Stolen Girl.

Franco plays Jonah, while Thames portrays Miller. Fitzgerald and Eastwood’s roles have not yet been detailed. Another notable name is Hollywood veteran Clancy Brown who among other roles is the voice of Mr Crabs on Spongebob Squarepants. Brown also appeared in The Mandalorian Season 1, Episode 6 (“The Prisoner”), Clancy Brown played Burg, a Devaronian (red-skinned, horned alien) mercenary and member of a crew attempting to break a prisoner out of a New Republic ship.

Regretting You is produced by Constantin Film, with producers Robert Kulzer, Brunson Green, Anna Todd, and Flavia Viotti. Executive producers include Colleen Hoover, Allison Williams, Dave Franco, and McKenna Grace. This is the second of Hoover’s books to get a theatrical release. Her first, It Ends With Us, was adapted by Sony and premiered in August 2024, earning over $350 million globally.
