New Jimmy Olsen–Led DC Series to Film in Atlanta This Spring — Title Still Under Wraps

DC Studios is gearing up for its next television project, and it’s heading straight for Georgia. According to industry reports, a new Jimmy Olsen–centered series is expected to begin filming in Atlanta in April, making it the next DC Universe (DCU) series to go before cameras following HBO’s upcoming Lanterns drama.

While early reports claimed the series was titled DC Crime, DC Studios co-CEO and Georgia resident James Gunn has since publicly corrected the record — the show is real, but that title is not.

Not DC Crime

Not Called “DC Crime” — But the Show Is Very Real

The initial title circulated widely through news outlets, but Gunn quickly addressed the confusion on Threads after Deadline ran a story using the rumored name.

“Just FYI, there has never been a project titled ‘DC Crime’ in development, not even as a working title,” Gunn wrote. “I don’t know where that came from, but it’s weird.”

To avoid speculation that the series itself was fake, Gunn added:

“And no, that doesn’t mean all of the rest of the story is false.”

When a user directly asked Gunn whether the series was fake or just the title, he simply replied: “Title.”

So while the official series name remains under wraps, its production — and creative team — are very much confirmed.

James Gunn Says No DC Crime

A Jimmy Olsen–Led Mockumentary Series Set in the DC Universe?

The untitled series will star Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, returning from Superman (2025). Gisondo also appeared in the Star Wars universe as the voice of Turgle in the hit 2023 game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The show is being rumored to be developed as a fictional true-crime docuseries, with Olsen acting as the on-camera host.

According to early reports, Season 1 will focus on Gorilla Grodd, the hyper-intelligent telepathic gorilla best known as an adversary of The Flash, dating back to his 1959 comics debut. Or course all of this is subject to change.

The format aligns perfectly with the creative team behind the project:

  • Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the duo behind the hit Netflix mockumentary American Vandal, will serve as writers, showrunners, and executive producers.

  • James Gunn and Peter Safran will executive produce for DC Studios.

  • Warner Bros. Television will handle production.

  • Galen Vaisman will oversee on behalf of DC Studios.

Yacenda and Perrault have extensive mockumentary credentials, including:

  • American Vandal (Netflix) — Peabody Award winner, Emmy-nominated

  • Players (Paramount+) — eSports mockumentary

  • Sports satire shorts for CollegeHumor and ESPN 30 for 30 parodies

Yacenda has also contributed to Chad Powers (Hulu) and Dave (FX), both of which shot in Georgia, making his return to the state a natural continuation.

Returning Daily Planet Cast — But No Superman or Lois (For Now)

The series will bring back several Daily Planet characters introduced in Gunn’s Superman, including:

  • Perry White (Wendell Pierce)

  • Steve Lombard (Beck Bennett)

  • Cat Grant (Mikaela Hoover)

  • Ron Troupe (Christopher McDonald)

However, Clark Kent (David Corenswet) and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) are not expected to appear in the first season.

Filming in Atlanta — Shadowing DC’s Film Slate

The production schedule reportedly lines up with Gunn’s next feature film, the sequel to Superman, Man of Tomorrow, which is also expected to shoot in Georgia also beginning in April 2026. This mirrors the previous DC workflow, when Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 filmed in Atlanta around the same time. The currently untitled Jimmy Olsen series which is definitely not titled “DC Crime” will debut on HBO Max, with a premiere window to be announced once filming wraps.

With the Olsen series shooting in the spring, it becomes the next television project in Gunn & Safran’s interconnected DCU after HBO’s high-profile Lanterns, starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Lanterns is expected to premiere in late summer 2026. Watch the Laterns Series Preview below:
