A new sci-fi horror thriller with one of the more eclectic lineups you’ll see this year just started production in Atlanta. Green Bank began filming the week of April 21, 2026 at Pangaea Studios in Atlanta — and if the premise is as wild as it sounds, this one is going to be a conversation starter.
The Real Town Behind the Story
Before getting into the cast, it’s worth spending a moment on the setting — because it’s genuinely fascinating. Green Bank takes its name from a real town in West Virginia that sits within the National Radio Quiet Zone, an area centered between the Green Bank Observatory and the Sugar Grove Station where radio transmissions are restricted by law to facilitate scientific research and the gathering of military intelligence. The Quiet Zone has been in place since the late 1950s, and has since been expanded to include restrictions on Wi-Fi and cell service. It’s the kind of place that already feels eerie before you add any fictional elements to it — which makes it a natural fit for this kind of story.
What the Film Is About
Green Bank follows infant sleep-trainer Sloan, who travels to the town and begins to realize that the parents of the child she is caring for are far more than the clueless yuppies they appear to be. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the film takes place in an American town where Wi-Fi, cell service, and other radio transmissions are heavily forbidden — and Sloan gradually uncovers something far darker and stranger lurking beneath the surface of what appears to be a perfectly healthy community. Director Josh Ruben has described it as an alien invasion sci-fi horror film, which puts the creepy-yuppie-parents setup in a very different light.
The Cast
Brittany O’Grady leads the film as Sloan, the infant sleep-trainer at the center of the story. O’Grady is best known for starring in Fox’s musical series Star and as one of the leads in the first season of HBO’s The White Lotus. She has been building one of the more interesting careers of her generation, and this is a meaty lead role. She will also next be seen in the upcoming Jumanji: Open World, due in theaters on December 25.
Tatiana Maslany co-stars alongside O’Grady. Maslany is best known to genre audiences for her Emmy Award-winning performance in Orphan Black and her role as She-Hulk in the MCU. She’s one of the most technically gifted actors working today, and her presence in a project like this is a real draw.
Kumail Nanjiani is another MCU veteran in the cast, having played Kingo in Eternals. He appeared last year in Amazon’s hit series Fallout. Nanjiani is also part of the Star Wars universe, having played street-level con man Haja Estree in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi opposite Ewan McGregor — making him one of the few actors to have credits in both the MCU and the Star Wars galaxy. He has a real gift for blending comedy and genuine tension — which given the film’s tonal ambitions sounds like exactly the right fit.
Jim Belushi is stepping into territory that’s a departure from his more familiar comedic work. He recently appeared in Kristen Stewart’s feature directorial debut The Chronology of Water and his intimidating turn in the 2016 thriller The Whole Truth was a notable earlier departure from his comedic persona — this project continues that trend.
Taylor John Smith and Jasmin Savoy Brown round out the main cast. Smith appeared in 2022’s Where the Crawdads Sing and in Alex Garland’s Warfare. Brown is best known to horror fans from the Scream franchise reboot and The Leftovers.
The Director and Creative Team
Josh Ruben has carved out a real niche in genre work that doesn’t take itself too seriously — without sacrificing genuine scares. He recently helmed the romantic slasher Heart Eyes and previously directed Werewolves Within — a funny and surprisingly tense whodunit horror comedy based on the Ubisoft video game that earned strong reviews and a devoted following. Green Bank sounds like a natural evolution of that sensibility into something bigger and stranger.
The screenplay is by Aaron Horwitz, whose previous credit is The Cleansing Hour. The film is being produced by Pangaea Studios, Big Swell Entertainment, and Nocturnal Kid, with UTA Independent Film Group repping the feature for sales. As an independent production with this level of talent attached, it’s one to watch on the festival circuit.
The Georgia Connection
Production is underway at Pangaea Studios in Atlanta, a newer facility that has been quietly building its reputation as a home for independent genre productions. Background casting for Green Bank is being handled by Casting Taylormade. Head to their website and keep an eye on their social media pages for open casting calls as production continues. With a cast this interesting and a story this unusual, being an extra on this one would make for a pretty good story.
No distributor or release date has been confirmed yet, but with UTA Independent Film Group repping the title for sales, expect a festival premiere and acquisition announcement in the not-too-distant future. We’ll keep you posted.
