Development and Production

Plans for adapting the graphic novel were initially announced in 2017, with Andy Muschietti in negotiations to direct. However, in December 2020, the Russo brothers signed on to direct, while Muschietti transitioned to an executive producer role via his production company. Frequent Russo collaborators Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were confirmed as the screenwriters.

Netflix acquired the distribution rights of the film in June 2022. Much of the film’s cast was revealed between 2022 and 2024. Millie Bobby Brown was confirmed as the lead, with production scheduled to begin after the Russos completed The Gray Man (2022) and Brown finished filming season four of Stranger Things.

Filming and Post-Production

Filming began in October 2022 in Atlanta under the working title Stormwind and concluded in February 2023. Additional reshoots were conducted from March 20 to April 5, 2024, to finalize the film.

Plot and Release

Set in an alternate 1994, The Electric State follows a young girl who is approached by a robot claiming to know her missing brother. Together, they embark on a journey to find him, navigating a world filled with bunch of sci-fi stuff apparently.

The film is set to premiere on Netflix on March 14, 2025. Watch the official trailer below.
