Will Ferrell is set to take on the world of televised courtroom justice. Ferrell is set to star for director Nicholas Stoller in the comedy feature Judgment Day, which is currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Stoller also penned the screenplay.

What's it About?
Initially announced in November 2024, Amazon MGM Studios‘ upcoming comedy Judgment Day is currently in development. IMDB reports that the movie follows a young convict, played by Zac Efron, who takes a reality TV courtroom hostage, blaming a power-hungry TV judge, portrayed by Will Ferrell, for a past ruling that ruined his life. While production is already underway, no official release date has been announced, though the collaboration between these actors has garnered attention.
The film’s director Nicholas Stoller describes the plot:
“Then Judgment Day is about a TV judge, played by Will Ferrell. I don’t know if we’re allowed to talk about who the other guy is, but we’re pretty close to knowing who the other guys are. Basically, he’s a TV judge—kind of a blowhard, kind of a jerk. You find all this out over the course of the movie, but the backstory is he ruled against this guy years ago, and it caused this guy’s life to spiral, and he ended up in jail. He gets out of jail, and he takes the judge’s show hostage live on air in order to put the judge on the stand, is basically what it’s about. It’s a crazy movie.”
Production Update
The film marks a reunion for Ferrell and Stoller, who previously worked together on You’re Cordially Invited, the wedding comedy also produced by Amazon MGM. Similar to Stoller and Ferrell’s other recent feature film, You’re Cordially Invited, the film will shoot in Georgia. According to the AJC, Judgment Day, will be based at Atlanta’s Shadowbox Studios.
There has been a recent uptick in the number of productions filming in Georgia. According to the Georgia film office, there are currently 24 productions filming in Georgia with 5 feature films including Judgment Day.
